Wed Jan 21 12:52:18 UTC 2015 Abu Dhabi -- Dubai has no plans to build its own nuclear power plants, a top official said. Instead, Dubai will import nuclear power, said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, chief executive officer and managing director of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), in an interview with Khaleej Times.

The Dewa CEO said that Dubai had recently issued bids for the construction of energy projects which would generate 100 MW. "The experience so far has been encouraging as the per-kilowatt-hour power generation price is attractive at 5.8 cents, down from 5.9 cents earlier estimated."

Chancellor Angela Merkel made the descision after ordering an unnamed energy services company to perform saftey checks of the nations plants. "Germany can't just carry on as if nothing happened," she conceeded.
